Australian Department of Defense

The Australian Department of Defense rolled out a new MIFARE® based ID card system, The Common Defense Access Card (DCAC), to rationalize the number of cards that staff needed to enter the multiple offices and bases located in Canberra.

In total 25,000 cards were initially issued over 2 months with several thousand additional cards issued per year.

PPC played a critical part in the success of this roll out through the provision of 6 XID re-transfer printers and a MIFARE® card initialization system used to set up the MIFARE® cards for the Defense Departments unique access control system and allow for the secure implementation of additional MIFARE® applications for other uses.

One of the significant factors that was part of PPC's success in this project was the ability to provide a customized MIFARE® encoding routine as part of the card initialization system in the form of CardExchange®. Marcel, Rutger and the team at ExchangeIt provided fantastic, fast response to the tender needs and developed a plug in module in a matter of days to meet the specified needs. This response is typical of PPC's experience with ExchangeIt over the last 2 years where the versatility and performance of the CardExchange software has enabled them to win a number of significant tenders.

PPC's special project manager Jason Hicks said "PPC's relationship with ExchangeIt is one of the key factors in our growth and ability to maintain the number one position in Australia's card printer market."

Other successful PPC project wins with CardExchange include Brisbane North Institute of TAFE and the South West institute of TAFE.
